Mass. Avenue/Route 111 Paving – May 24th Update

Work is Underway to Resurface Sections of Route 111 from the Harvard Town Line the Acton Town Line

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDoT) is currently resurfacing two sections of Massachusetts Avenue/Route 111. Please seek alternate routes and expect travel delays through these areas while resurfacing is occurring. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Harvard Town Line to 1233 Massachusetts Avenue (Approximately 1 Mile)

Work has begun and is expected to be completed at the end of May or early June, weather permitting. Work will include pavement milling, drainage structure adjustments, paving, and new pavement markings. Night paving for this stretch of roadway is currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 24th.

Acton Town Line to Fire Station (Approximately 1 Mile)

MassDoT has begun resurfacing the section of Massachusetts Avenue/Route 111 between the Acton town line and the Sargent Memorial Library at 427 Massachusetts Avenue, and is expected to be completed at the end of May or early June, weather permitting. This is 3/4 of a mile of roadway from the immediate east of the planned culvert replacement project to the Acton town line. This will leave a 1/4 mile gap at the site of the culvert replacement and extension project (between the library and the Fire Station), which will be resurfaced when the culvert work is completed. Night paving is currently scheduled for this section of roadway for Tuesday, May 30th.

Culvert Replacement:

MassDoT will be replacing two culverts in the vicinity of the Fire Station and library, and extending another culvert further to the east. The design plans for this work are complete. MassDoT is awaiting a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers which they expect to receive within the next two months. Work is expected to begin in late July/early August and hopefully will be completed prior to the new school year.

Provided the culvert work is completed this calendar year (2017), MassDoT plans to resurface the portion over the culverts in calendar year 2018.
