Recent Passage of Federal Tax Cut & Jobs Act

With the recent passage of the “Tax Cut and Jobs Act” this week by the US Congress the deduction of property and state and local income taxes is now capped at $10,000.00 per household starting in calendar year 2018.

A number of Boxborough residents have inquired about whether or not they can pre-pay the taxes due on 02/01/2018 & 05/01/2018 – the answer is YES.

A few notes:

  • Payments towards FY2019 taxes cannot be accepted as that levy does not exist yet.
  • Payments above and beyond the amounts billed for FY18 Q3 & FY18 Q4 will be refunded thus should not be deducted on 2017 taxes.
  • People who pay online please be aware of delays in the posting of payments. Some credit cards can take a few business days and could post in calendar 2018 instead of 2017 which would not qualify for the 2017 deduction.

The Collectors office will be accepting payments until 4pm on Friday, Dec. 29th, 2017.

Please do not hesitate to call the Tax Collector  with any comments, questions or concerns regarding these changes.
