Volunteer Interest – Boxborough Board of Assessors

The Town of Boxborough is forming a Board of Assessors and seeks residents interested in volunteering. The establishment of the board was approved by Town vote at the Fall Town Meeting, Article 7, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 (Night Two). This three-member board will ensure fair and equitable property assessments, support the annual tax rate process, review abatements and exemptions, and work closely with the Principal Assessor.

Members serve staggered three-year terms, must complete the Department of Revenue’s Basic Assessors Training Program within one year of appointment, and are encouraged to participate in continuing education to stay current on assessment practices and Massachusetts law. Meetings will be held as needed, at least quarterly, in compliance with the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.

Volunteer Interest - Board of Assessors

    • Serve a three-year term, if appointed

    • Attend meetings, hearings, and required training

    • Complete all training and certification requirements mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR), including the Basic Assessors Training Program within one year of appointment

    • Comply with the Massachusetts Conflict of Interest Law, Open Meeting Law, and Public Records Law
