Public Records Requests

Due to the local, state and federally declared state of emergency relative to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Boxborough Town Hall is closed and there is limited municipal staffing. Accordingly, the Records Access Officer and/or Town staff will not be able to access responsive records required to respond to your request. As a result, and despite its best efforts, the Town of Boxborough is not now able to fully respond to your public records request in a timely fashion. We will log your request and, as promptly as possible following resumption of more normalized operations, respond in accordance with the Public Records Law. Please understand that where public buildings are closed and staff is limited, resources must be devoted to those matters directly related to the public health and safety; as soon as we are able, we will notify you that we are working on your request.

The Massachusetts Public Records Law provides that every person has a right of access to public information. This right of access includes the right to inspect, copy, or have copies of records provided.

The Guide to the Massachusetts Public Records Law is published and made available by the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth. It contains extensive information about Public Records, including Frequently Asked Questions, exemptions from Public Records Law, applicable fees, and statutory references.

The State has also provided Public Records Access Regulations to help you understan your rights.

Commonly requested records, such as meeting minutes, election results, and planning board decisions, are usually available on this web site. The Search function  (see the "Search" box above) will help identify all the documents relevant to your reqest. Town maps, aerial photography, parcel and assessor information is available on our Geographic Information System (GIS) web site.

Boxborough has 5 Records Access Officers (RAOs).
