Project History

In the Summer of 2023, the Town was approached by the Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MART) to establish a new local ride share service. A stakeholder group was formed to work with the MART team and devise the best service for Boxborough. This team was comprised of the following individuals:

Assistant Town AdministratorBlanchard Elementary PrincipalCommunity Services CoordinatorCouncil on Aging CoordinatorPolice ChiefTown Planner
Through a community connects grant, secured by MART, this group determined a scheduled bus route would be prepared for Boxborough. After several meetings in the past year, were happy to announce that beginning on May 13, residents, visitors, and commuters can look forward to a new means of transportation in Boxborough, at the cost of only $1 per trip.

We encourage you to bookmark this page and check back regularly for project updates!

Purpose

The purpose of this route is to provide equitable and accessible transportation to key sites and services. Users will be able to reach Acton Boxborough United Way, Blanchard Elementary, Middlesex Bank Plaza, Sargent Memorial Library, the South Acton Commuter Rail Station, and Town Hall, as well as several other sites and services. This will provide a sustainable, safe, and less intensive method of travel.

Community Engagement

This route was designed with input from several Home Owners and Neighborhood Associations in Boxborough. From its inception, the team knew this route needed to reach denser neighborhoods, who may frequent the route more often. Many of these neighborhoods were asked to participate in a survey exercise, which helped us learn where to target stops.

To meet the demands of at-need populations, we further coordinated with Danny's Place, the United Way, and with the local Food Pantry. We are confident that this route will help deliver people to the most necessary public services. But it doesn't stop there...

As we kick off the route on May 16, users are encouraged to share feedback on the route. Where do you want to go? Who did we miss? We encourage you to provide feedback direct to drivers, and by contacting the Town Planner using the links on this page.
