The Boxborough Water Resources Committee (WRC) guides the Town in protecting its water resources and meeting its long-term water supply needs. It holds regular meetings and welcomes input from others. It collects and analyzes water data, evaluates water supply needs and potential threats, makes recommendations to Town boards and officials, and the public regarding sound water management, and coordinates with other stakeholders. It may conduct engineering studies, report the results, participate in negotiations on behalf of the Town, and hire outside experts to help meet its goals. The WRC is consistent with Boxborough 2030, the Town’s master plan, and it acts in accordance with the goals of its charter (PDF).

Free PFAS Testing for Private Well Owners in Boxborough

Private well owners in Boxborough are eligible for free PFAS testing of their well water through the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).  MassDEP is offering limited free PFAS testing of private wells in 84 municipalities across the Commonwealth where 60% or more residents receive their drinking water from private wells.

Private well owners should visit https://dwp-pfas.madwpdep.org/ to register for a free private well drinking water sampling kit.   Eligible applicants will receive an easy-to-use sampling kit and return them to MassDEP free of charge. Due to COVID-19 concerns, residents will be instructed on how to collect the water samples; MassDEP staff or state contractors will not need to visit a well for the free PFAS sampling program.

MassDEP will provide the results of the testing to the well owner, along with technical assistance on any recommended steps to take based on the results. MassDEP will also share sample results, location, and well owner information with the Board of Health.

Boxborough's Water Portal

Water Portal

The Boxborough Water Resources Committee (WRC) received a Technical Assistance Program (TAP) grant from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). The deliverables of this project are an interactive water portal that is updated when new water quality data becomes available, and a StoryMap that is an informational guide about Boxborough's water resources. To view the Water Portal or StoryMap in a new tab, select the red underlined titles, "Boxborough's Water Portal" and "Boxborough's Water Story".
